DTF Essential Ordering Guidelines

DTF Essential Ordering Guidelines

What is DTF?

DTF, or Direct To Film, is a printing technique where designs and colors are printed directly onto a film and then easily transferred to materials like cotton, polyester, and linen using a brief 15-second heat press.

When making an order, there are key considerations:

  • Image Size: Determine the dimensions of your images.
  • Quantity: Specify the number of image copies needed.
  • Transfers By Size: Usually used for small runs or samples.
  • Gang Sheets: Fit multiple designs and sizes on a roll to save costs.

Art Upload Recommendations

All file types accepted, however ADOBE RGB 1998 and TIFF files are always preferred, raster art should be at least 300 dpi.

The printed file may not match your monitor, the colors in your computer or device screens are NOT an accurate representation of how the artwork will print in CMYK.

Please note: CMYK switches color intensity after printed.

  • We will NOT ADJUST: size, layout, quality or target PANTONE colors.
  • Please do NOT MIRROR your designs.

UNDER-Base WHITE

  • Artwork with tiny details that are BELOW the 9pts mark will NOT get WHITE under-base.
  • Avoid designs with very fine details are likely NOT TRANSFER CORRECTLY on to your fabric.
  • To correct this issue:Before submitting your designs, add a stroke to your artwork to make the small details thicker.

ARTWORK Requirements (Additional):

  • Include only desired artwork (DO NOT include: notes or layers)
  • Only submit what should be printed
  • Vector Artwork should have hard edges, SOFT Edges (or SHADOWS) CAN NOT be printed.
  • Artwork should NOT have any transparency or fading on the EDGES.

Small Details & Fine lines:

  • Avoid FINE LINES smaller than 9pts (They won't transfer correctly)
  • We will NOT RE-COLOR or EDIT artwork in any way prior to printing.

Pressing Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Design: Take your transfer and place it where you want it on your item. If you're working on hats or using an iron, it's best to secure the transfer with heat-resistant tape.
  2. Pressing: Apply medium pressure and heat (310°F / 155°C) for 15 seconds. Make sure not to damage your garment by using too much heat; use parchment paper or a protective guard sheet.
  3. Cool Down and Peel: Let the transfer cool for at least 15-30 seconds, then gently peel it off from one corner. Check if the entire design sticks; if not, troubleshoot by adding more pressure or heat increments of 15°F.
  4. Final Touch: Place parchment paper or a single layer of t-shirt material over the design and press again for 5 seconds to improve durability and remove shine. For a shiny finish, use a protective teflon sheet during the final press.
  5. Washing Instructions: To maintain the transfer, wash the garment inside out in cold water and dry on low heat or hang it up.

These steps will help you achieve a professionally pressed DTF transfer every time.

What kind of press do I need?

Any kind of heat press with firm pressure is ideal. As opposed to what is advertised with other big brand DTF companies, an Iron does not work properly. It will look fine with initial ironing but once the apparel is washed, the transfer will start peeling and cracking. We value honest and transparent transactions.

What materials are compatible with DTF transfers?

DTF transfers work seamlessly on both light and dark garments, including cotton, cotton/poly blends, and 100% polyester fabrics.

How long do DTF transfers last?

With regular use and standard washing and drying, a DTF print can typically last between 50 to 100 washes.

Care Instructions

The way you care for your printed garment can greatly extend (or shorten) the lifespan of a DTF print. Gentle washing, avoiding harsh detergents, and line drying when possible can all contribute to a longer-lasting print.
