UV Sticker Guide: How to Order, Prepare & Apply
Everything you need to know before ordering UV stickers from ODCAF Express.
UV stickers (also called UV DTF transfers) let you put full-color designs on cups, tumblers, glass, metal and other hard surfaces — no heat press needed. This guide covers how to choose a size, prepare your artwork, and apply your stickers for the best results.
What Are UV Stickers?
UV stickers are printed with ink that's cured instantly by ultraviolet light, creating a permanent, waterproof and scratch-resistant image.
Each sticker comes on a transfer film: you peel off the backing, press the design onto your item, and remove the clear top film. Only your design stays behind — there's no sticker background.

What Surfaces Can I Use?
UV stickers work best on hard, smooth, clean surfaces, including:
- Ceramic mugs
- Glass
- Stainless steel & tumblers
- Hard plastic
- Acrylic
- Phone cases
- Sealed wood
- Boxes & packaging
Not recommended for
Fabric and garments, soft or flexible items, very textured or rough surfaces, and surfaces that are oily, dusty or wet. For shirts and other textiles, use our DTF transfers instead.
Choosing a Size
UV stickers are sold by size. Each size is the maximum width × height of the printed area.
Small
1.5 × 1.5 in · 2 × 2 in · 3 × 3 in
Logos, labels, pens, lids, phone cases and small accents.
Drinkware wraps
8 × 3 in — 11oz mug
9 × 4 in — 16oz cup
8.3 × 9.3 in — 20oz tumbler
Made to wrap standard drinkware. Trim to fit if needed.
Large sheets
22 × 12 in · 11 × 36 in · 22 × 36 in (1 yard)
Large decals, or fit many designs on one sheet — often the best value.
Not sure? Measure the flat area of your item where the design will go, and choose the size that fits inside it.
Before You Upload Your Artwork
For the best print quality, please make sure:
- Your artwork has a transparent background.
- Your design is already sized to the dimensions you want printed.
- High-resolution artwork is provided — 300 DPI is recommended.
- Your artwork is not mirrored.
- Only the elements you want printed are included in the file.
- Very thin lines and tiny text have been thickened or removed.
- Soft shadows, glows and faded edges have been removed or made solid.
- When ordering a large sheet with multiple designs, leave a little space between each design so they're easy to cut apart.
We Print Your Artwork as Submitted
Please review your artwork carefully before placing your order.
ODCAF Express does not automatically resize, redesign, recolor, rearrange or correct customer artwork before printing. The size and layout submitted are the size and layout that will be printed.

Transparent Backgrounds
Your file should contain only the artwork you want printed. Any visible background — including white — may print as part of the sticker.
A high-resolution PNG with a transparent background is usually the easiest format to submit.
Small Details & Fine Lines
Extremely thin lines and tiny details have very little surface to grip and can break apart or lift when you peel the film.
Thicken delicate areas before submitting for a stronger, longer-lasting sticker.
Gradients & Soft Edges
Fades, shadows and soft edges that blend into transparency may not transfer cleanly.
Use solid, clean edges around your design whenever possible.
Color Disclaimer
Colors on a phone or computer screen may look different when printed, and the color of your item can change how the design looks.
We don't color match, so an exact screen-to-print or Pantone match can't be guaranteed. If exact color is critical, contact us before ordering.
How to Apply Your UV Sticker
No heat, no tools — just a clean surface and firm pressure.

Prep the Surface
Clean the surface so it's free of dust, oil and fingerprints — rubbing alcohol works well. Let it dry completely.
Size the sticker to your item and trim around the design if needed.

Peel the Backing
Slowly peel off the back paper. The design stays attached to the clear top film.
Try not to touch the adhesive side of the design.

Place & Rub
Position the design on your item and press it down from the center outward to avoid air bubbles.
Rub firmly over the whole design — a squeegee, card or your fingers all work.

Remove the Top Film
Slowly peel away the clear top film at a low angle. If part of the design lifts, lay the film back down, rub again, and peel more slowly.
Caring for Your Item
- For best results, let the sticker set for at least 24 hours before washing.
- Hand wash gently for the longest life.
- Avoid scrubbing directly on the design with abrasive sponges.
- Avoid soaking the item for long periods.
Can I Reposition It?
Once the design touches the surface it grabs quickly, so line it up carefully before pressing down.
Take your time on curved items like tumblers — start at one edge and smooth the design around the curve.
Common UV Sticker Mistakes
Skipping Surface Prep
Dust, oil and fingerprints keep the sticker from bonding. Always clean and dry the surface first.
Peeling Too Fast
Ripping the top film off quickly can lift small details. Peel slowly and at a low angle.
Leaving a Background
If your file has a visible background, it may print as part of the sticker.
Uploading Low-Resolution Art
Screenshots and images saved from the internet often print blurry when enlarged.
Choosing the Wrong Size
Measure your item first. The design is printed at the size you order.
Applying to the Wrong Surface
UV stickers are for hard surfaces — they won't hold up on fabric or soft, flexible items.
